Live data (optional)
Auto-fills price, shares outstanding, and available financials via Alpha Vantage's free tier — free signup, no card, no billing anywhere in this flow. Every field falls back to manual entry independently if it isn't available for a given ticker, so the dashboard works fully without a key too.
Key is stored only in this browser's local storage — sent only to Alpha Vantage over HTTPS, never anywhere else. Alpha Vantage's free tier is strict (~25 requests/day): each new ticker costs 2 requests (quote + fundamentals) and results are cached for 24h, so re-loading the same ticker costs nothing until then. Only "Load ticker" / "Refresh ticker" clicks ever fetch — nothing happens automatically in the background.
Why not fully automatic?
There's no free, no-signup, no-card API that reliably covers both global and Indian-exchange company fundamentals with no rate limiting — that combination doesn't exist as a public, unauthenticated endpoint. Alpha Vantage's free tier is the closest fit (confirmed CORS-enabled, no card required), at the cost of a tight daily quota and unverified coverage for some non-US tickers (verifiable only with a real key, which requires your own free signup). Alpha Vantage documents Indian coverage via a .BSE suffix rather than the more common Yahoo-style .NS/.BO, so this app auto-converts those for you (type INFY.NS, it queries INFY.BSE) — the status line shows the exact symbol queried. Whether that symbol actually returns data is expected to work but hasn't been confirmed end-to-end here.
